ALIMONY in FLORIDA

Alimony is awarded at the discretion of the court according to the facts of the particular case. The purpose of alimony is to provide what is necessary for the support of the former spouse, which may be the husband or wife. The following are the various types of alimony:

1. Permanent periodic alimony;
2. Lump-sum alimony;
3. Rehabilitative alimony; and
4. Bridge-the-gap alimony.

Many of my clients are professionals, and may only need a lump sum payment to help them restart their lives, while others may have sacrificed their careers for their family and need long term support. I understand that every situation is different and that either the husband or the wife may have specific needs that dictate the most effective way of receiving spousal support. I take the time to understand my client's situation then help negotiate spousal support that is appropriate for his or her situation.

In some cases, one party may attempt to hide income and assets to prevent the other party from receiving the proper amount of alimony.
