Two lawsuits accuse pair of Broward puppy stores of selling sick dogs
32 puppies rescued from Pembroke Pines store

A sign on the door said “No more puppies available,” but dozens of abandoned dogs could be heard barking inside the darkened Pembroke Pines pet shop Thursday morning.

By mid-afternoon, rescuers from the national and local Humane Societies arrived at the Wizard of Claws store and found 33 puppies, one of them dead in its cage.

The puppy shop at 9113 Taft St. is one of two stores in Broward County battling lawsuits alleging they sold puppies that died or got sick within days or weeks of purchase. The lawsuit against Wizard of Claws, filed in 2007, is pending.
