Scott Rothstein admitted Wednesday morning that his empire was built on a lie — the biggest financial fraud in South Florida history.

He pleaded guilty to five federal charges, accepting responsibility for a massive Ponzi scheme, and faces a lengthy prison term at his sentencing in May.

Orlando, Florida (CNN/In Session) — Casey Anthony, the young Florida mother awaiting trial in the death of her daughter, Caylee, pleaded guilty Monday to check fraud and was sentenced to time served.

Florida Federal Court Rules Against Alleged Satellite Pirate

Dish Network wins $51M judgment against alleged satellite-TV pirate

Colorado’s Dish Network Corp. and its sister companies have won a $51 million court judgment against a man they accused of being a satellite TV pirate who helped people steal the companies’ transmissions.

A federal court in Florida issued the ruling Monday in a case against Robert Ward. The case arose out of a civil suit filed against Ward by Douglas County-based satellite broadcaster Dish Network, EchoStar Technologies and NagraStar. EchoStar and NagraStar produce set-top box and encryption gear designed to make Dish Network’s signals viewable only by paying subscribers.

Florida grandma Gabrielle Shaink Trudeau left in jail for 15 days over driver’s license mistake

A 78-year-old indigent Florida woman was left in jail for 15 days — including over Thanksgiving — on charges of  driving with a suspended license, according to a story in the online newspaper BrowardBulldog.org.

Air Around the Clock, a Coral Springs air conditioning company, has reached an out-of-court agreement in its trademark infringement case against a competitor. Air Around the Clock had accused the rival of misappropriating its successful “Your wife is hot. Better get your A/C fixed” billboard campaign.

Finding a job in Florida is hard enough, with a record unemployment rate of 11.5%. The highest its been since 1975. Lawyers say finding a job has become so tough, that a record number of Floridians have had their criminal records sealed or expunged, hoping that removing that part of their past, might make them more attractive to prospective employers.
